I'm sure you have heard of the Race to Nowhere (http://www.racetonowhere.com/) documentary, and your experience, and sadly many others, made me think of it.

Keep doing what you're doing, you are preparing your students for way more than a silly test.

MeganMegan Kuemmerlinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12967336441608019389noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2488505761168063426.post-80802873097820197472013-03-26T17:55:19.515-07:002013-03-26T17:55:19.515-07:00Agree!! I wish I could just teach my students to manage the English language correctly (I am a bilingual teacher) without them feeling the pressure of having to take and pass a state test that is WAY above their level! I would love to give them a chance to feel successful instead of always leaving them with a feeling of failure. The curriculum is written to prepare them for the test, but no one takes into account where they come from or what they need to do to be successful in the Englislh language for their lives. I would just love to relax, have fun, and help them to be successful...Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12064937330092010058noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2488505761168063426.post-60804145176404204152013-03-26T14:14:28.826-07:002013-03-26T14:14:28.826-07:00I love that you noted that it's just as confus...I love that you noted that it's just as confusing and frustrating to the kids. My students ask me why as well. "Why are we learning about a test that we take at least two times a year EVERY year?" "Why do we have to learn about bubbling and answers and "strategies" that only help us on this one test?"

I'm with you: the day after the test can't come too soon.WordSmithMMShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09312369070195107006noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2488505761168063426.post-50989193171949226382013-03-25T11:33:21.896-07:002013-03-25T11:33:21.896-07:00Good for you! You are joined by SOOOO many people ...Good for you! You are joined by SOOOO many people (educators, parents, STUDENTS)who HATE standardized tests. We need more people to stand up and JUST SAY NO TO TEACHING TO THE TEST and say YES TO THE LOVE OF LEARNING! It's time for government to get their noses out of our lesson plans and allow educators to assess their students based on tests that are appropriate and designed by the educator. UGH! It just makes me sick how hard teachers work and how little they are respected by politicians and corporations like Pearson. I work in the public education sector but am thinking about sending my own child to a private school if things don't change. EDUCATORS DESERVE TO BE TREATED AS PROFESSIONALS--Not micromanaged and mistreated. It's time to take a stand! Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
